'tis held that sorrow makes us wise...
so i was talking to christina on the phone while i was driving back to dublin this morning on I-16 and i missed BOTH exits i could have taken to get to the office. so i had to go an extra ten miles out of the way and come in through east dublin.
the week has been uneventul, workwise, but it was dominated by some very sad news -- a friend of mine lost his mother to cancer earlier this week. a group of us from tech drove up to the funeral yesterday just to be there (it was about all we could do). our friend delivered the eulogy himself, which in and of itself spoke volumes about his character and personal strength. it was so personal and such a beautiful tribute to his mother -- i can't even begin to summarize here what he said. there was not a dry eye in the church.
we didn't know his mother well (although most of us had met her). we grieved for our friend's loss, though, and were deeply saddened by the loss of life -- she was only 52. but these things do get you thinking -- about death, about what it will be like to lose loved ones, about the afterlife, about faith.
