rhonda and i played at church last night. there were four people there, seven if you count us musicians and the layreader. and three of the four people were realted to us musicians and the layreader. i think that is the smallest crowd ever on a wednesday night. episcopalians never have been much for wednesday night services, but it's sad to see our little church in such a decline. christ episcopal is one of the oldest churches in town (our sanctuary is actually the oldest public building still standing in dublin) and it has such a rich history. but the last rector was not well-liked, and this region is dominated by the baptists (methodists are also pretty strong). in such a sea of conservatism, it makes you wonder if a little progressive island of a church stands a chance.
