lick bush

so many different things happened over the weekend that i feel like i should write separate blog entries, but whatever. randy and lauren's wedding was very nice and i had an interesting conversation with the groom's cousin (she was seated beside me at the reception). she had been raised in kenya... my first thought was, "oh, god -- missionaries" but her father is an opthamologist and he moved there to practice medicine years ago. anyway, she lives in new mexico now and is an artist, but she is seriously considering moving back to kenya because she does not like the political climate in the states right now. we talked about politics, sexuality, religion... it was cool.

on saturday, i paid a deposit on place in homepark. i left my checkbook in dublin, so i had to pay cash -- i felt like i was participating in a drug deal or something when i started counting out all those twenties. i'll be moving in on august 9, one week before clases start. it was sort of wierd finding a place... i didn't want to live on campus, but i don't know any homepark dwellers anymore (when people graduate, they usually move to nicer neighborhoods). so i was evaluating both the house itself and its occupants in a single visit. both the landlord and the two guys who live there seemed really laid back; the house was clean and my future roommates said they could get along with anybody. which is good. not that i am hard to get along with or anything.

i should have taken my camera to atlanta over the weekend. i haven't shot a roll of film in ages, and there was certainly plenty to photograph... taylor tried to take some pictures saturday night, bless his heart, but after discovering that his camera was out of film, he threw it to the ground and it broke into several pieces. we ran into michael et al. at mary's, so that was fun.

a bunch of us made it to the gay pride parade on sunday -- it was my first one ever (how i managed to live in atlanta for six years and always miss the parade is beyond me... oh yeah, i wasn't out). one of the most amusing signs read "lesbians for licking bush." there were a plethora of other groups (and lots of politicians, too) -- all in all, it was probably the best parade i have ever been to.
