i do, already

another weekend, another wedding... folks are getting married right and left, it seems, but i'm always an usher/groomsman/musician and never a groom. i used to be pretty anti-marriage when it came to my own life, but now i'm not so sure. all saints recently decided to start performing same-sex commitment ceremonies, so a wedding would actually be an option for me (although legal marriage or even civil unions will probably not be legal in georgia for a very long time).

at least gay sex is no longer illegal in georgia -- and my straight friends can now legally give and receive oral sex -- thanks in part to georgia supreme court justice leah sears for voting to overturn georgia's antiquated and unenforceable sodomy laws. of course, that decision led to a conservative backlash against the court, and now the right-wingers and the christian coalition are actively campaigning against justice sears. because of her measured, progressive stance on social issues, the right has labled her an "activist judge" bent on forcing a liberal agenda down our collective throats. just how expanding our constitutionally-guaranteed civil liberties translates into a "liberal agenda" beats the hell out of me, but if you like getting head, please vote for leah sears in tomorrow's election.
