indictment
i sometimes forget how much i enjoy reading. just sitting down and spending a couple of hours with a good book. it keeps me sane -- i should do it more often, but invariably i get sidetracked. i read several newspapers during the week, including the ones i edit, the macon telegraph, the ajc and the new york times, but that doesn't really count as reading. so many interesting stories in the papers, especially in the times, but i enjoy the depth i encounter with a book you can literally dive into. and i don't have to come up for air if i don't want to.
i felt so, well, indicted today while reading a prayer for owen meany. the author wrote:
"she possessed all the up-to-date information that often passes as intelligence among people who make a daily and extensive habit of reading the new york times..."
could that be me?
